The Cheeky Bee Story
Cheeky Bee is the brainchild of myself, Perry; and my partner in life and love, Amanda. We started out as candle lovers and evolved into beeswax candlemakers. Established in 1999, Cheeky Bee grew out of the search for a natural alternative to chemically-based toxic candles. After learning about the benefits and purity of beeswax, we started making candles that would inspire and amaze... “Can it be true? Do beeswax candles really burn completely clean? Cost less than paraffin candles? Is the flame really different?”
Yes, yes and yes!
Painstakingly handcrafted in Ontario, Canada, we still stubbornly use the timeless methods of handmaking each candle. Just as our chandler ancestors did these past 4000 years, each candle is hand poured, hand dripped, hand dipped and hand finished. We are proud of all that is lovingly created in our humble little 'factory'.
Although we do not maintain our own hives, over time we have established long-term relationships with local, ethical and environmentally aware beekeepers. By supporting local farmers, we are guaranteed not only a constant supply of the finest 100% pure beeswax in the world but also a fair price for the people who make it all happen. Bees are crucial for the survival of mankind, and the beekeepers are crucial for the collecting the honey and wax – it's a mutually beneficial relationship!
With Cheeky Bee firmly established, we found ourselves frustrated with city life and, in 2005, made the Village of Warkworth, in Northumberland County our home.
The Cheeky Bee Gallery
Taking up residence at 23 Main Street, Cheeky Bee Gallery opened its doors to the throngs of tourists and candle lovers who visit daily. As part of this 'Designated Artisan Community' known as 'The Village of Warkworth', we offer one-of-a-kind pieces of fine craft and original art, and have established Cheeky Bee as one of Eastern Ontario's finest galleries, featuring the work of over 150 artists & craftspeople from across North America. We are always on the lookout for handmade products that have that special something that elevates them far beyond the ordinary.
Looking back on the path that we have taken, we never could have envisioned the adventures that would lie ahead. Cheeky Bee has given us more than a career, it has given us a life that we love.
As we bring our story full circle, we are first generation candle makers who, through hard work, dedication and an innate appreciation for what we do, are able to offer you the longest lasting, cleanest burning, sweetest smelling, all natural, 100% pure beeswax candles on Earth.
